Cleantech Forum XXV to be held in Beijing

Focuses on Growth Opportunities in China Cleantech Market

BEIJING – October 27, 2009 – Cleantech Forum XXV, the longest-running and largest annual assembly of global leaders of the clean technology sector, will be held in Beijing on the 2-3 December, 2009. Hosted by the Cleantech GroupTM, LLC, providers of leading global market research, events and advisory services for the clean technology (cleantech) ecosystem, the event brings together the world’s most prominent investors, entrepreneurs, influencers, policy-makers and economic development agencies, to explore the growing opportunities in China’s cleantech market.

With China being the fastest growing developing economy in the world and investments in clean technologies continuing to grow in a down market, it’s no surprise that China presents huge potential for cleantech innovators. In recent months, the Chinese government has announced a number of initiatives including an enormous 3 trillion yuan (US$440 billion) stimulus package to expand its renewable energy use. Moreover, it has set a target of boosting the proportion of renewable energy consumption against primary energy consumption from 10% to 16% by 2020. The sheer size of the market and governmental support of clean technologies creates an environment for tremendous cleantech business opportunities and impact.

“In the face of the current financial crisis, the world’s economy for the future lies in a sustainable and low-carbon recovery,” said Nicholas Parker, Executive Chairman, Cleantech Group. “China may not have historically produced home-grown technology ventures, but with the strong support from the local government and rapid market development, China is expected to be the largest cleantech market that goes from niche to mainstream. Cleantech Forum XXV, with its seven year history, provides an unparalleled networking opportunity for pioneers and innovators, particularly as corporations look to maximize their investments in China’s cleantech market.”

This year’s conference themed “Cleantech in China: the largest cleantech market goes from niche to mainstream” will explore the dynamics of China’s energy market and look at the latest developments in climate change, energy independence and resource scarcity driving markets for clean technologies. The two-day conference will also address the macro-factors impacting China and the global cleantech market, international viewpoints on China, as well as discuss what strategies the rest of the world can offer Chinese companies to help promote and foster the growth of local entrepreneurism. Other key reasons to consider investing in China include:

  • China is the largest emitter of carbon in the world and the fasting growing developing economy in the world
  • China’s investments in wind, solar and nuclear are greater than the rest of the world combined
  • China is fundamentally re-conceptualizing human transportation
