Agenda
A recipe for Cleantech in 2009 Over April 28-30, 2009, more than 350 leaders of the clean technology sector, including investors, corporations, policy-makers, entrepreneurs and CEOs of sector leading companies, will convene in Copenhagen for Cleantech Forum XXII. Cleantech Forum XXII represents a time-efficient and cost-effective opportunity to directly engage with key players in the clean technology innovation ecosystem of Europe, Israel and beyond. Meet the power players still investing, and still creating jobs and wealth with clean technology. The conference program, with its mix of off-site tours, plenary sessions, parallel tracks, side programs and networking breaks, offers such a variety of subjects and formats to gain information and network with key individuals, that no one delegate will experience the same conference as another. Discussions on the issues the sector faces in these difficult times are incorporated into the event as attendees have a chance to examine topics such as efficiency, cleaner industry and smarter infrastructure, while getting an up to date picture of today’s geo-political and macro-economic realities. In addition, over the course of the event, opportunities will be available to network with some 50 clean technology companies looking for advice, capital, partners, customers, talent - or all five. The COP-15 summit in Copenhagen in December 2009 will affect the clean technology sector directly. Therefore, the Forum hosts and moderators will integrate this topic into all sessions and address the main issues that arise for the sector including: - What does the cleantech innovation/investment community want from its policy-makers?
- What could policy-makers and a climate deal do that would be most helpful to cleantech?
Finally, there will be numerous opportunities for unparalleled networking. Whatever and whoever represents your prime interest in attending, the Cleantech Forum XXII will exceed your expectations. For all manner of reasons. In the Cleantech Group’s view, there are two fundamental blocks to this demand being met. One is a lack of knowledge on the part of the technology-supply side of what solutions the demand side is searching for. The other has nothing to do with technological supply or invention, but is centered on the very real and practical challenges of procurement, integration and finance. This session gives the floor to 4 organisations from very varied perspectives to address the first point, namely to let the innovation community know what they are up to, what clean technologies they are ‘demanding’, and why. Jonathan Maxwell will pick up on the second point, and respond with some views on the systems thinking that is needed to facilitate young companies working with big companies and big projects (e.g. Dongtang), and on how plays like energy efficiency can be financed – across the world. Moderator: Richard Youngman, Cleantech Group Speakers: Per Stoltz, Head of Green Living Project, Ikea AB Christian Sautter, Vice Mayor, City of Paris Johann Bernhard, Head of Technical Services, Munich Airport GmbH Usman A. Fateh, Riyadh Techno Valley Jonathan Maxwell, CEO, Sustainable Development Capital LLP | The Impact of the Financial Crisis on Investors: where is cleantech now? Closed Session – for LPs and GPs only This town hall-style session will facilitate an exchange of views and experiences on how cleantech investment looks in the current economic climate, how the financial crisis has impacted institutional investors’ asset allocations, how things differ between the US and Europe, how views vary across different investor types, and how the fund-raising environment is right now. A few individuals will be tasked to seed the town hall discussion by providing some opening remarks to stimulate the debate. Moderator: Josyane Gold, SJ Berwin Speakers: Mark Cunningham, Managing Director, Helix Associates Tom Cusack, Managing Director, BPE Fund Investors G.m.b.H. Nicolas Schellenberg, Macquarie Funds of PE Funds David Walker, deputy Head of Equities, European Investment Fund Henrik Olsen, Partner, ETF Rob Wylie, Partner, Wheb Ventures | | | 4:05pm – 4:15pm | Closing Remarks Messages will be heard from the innovation community to the policy makers. Collation and synthesis of the points that have arisen from across the different sessions will be summarized. Looking ahead - what next? What the sector has learned? What is the year ahead looking like? Speakers: Richard Youngman, Managing Director, Cleantech Group, Europe/Israel Finn Mortensen, Executive Director, Climate Consortium Denmark | | 4:15pm | Conference Ends – Wind-Down | | |
