Investment Manager – European Venture Capital Team

Capricorn Venture Partners NV is a Belgian based, independent pan-European manager of venture capital funds that invest in innovative European companies with technology as competitive advantage. The firm has longstanding industrial and venture capital experience in backing entrepreneurs with breakthrough technologies in the cleantech, life sciences, biotechnology, IT and material sciences sectors.

Following the successful closing of its latest Cleantech Fund at Euro 112 million, Capricorn is looking to expand its investment team at the Associate as well as Investment Manager level. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading fast-paced investment team and develop a career in cleantech venture capital.

For Capricorn, cleantech embraces a diverse range of products, services and processes that harness renewable materials and energy sources, dramatically reduce and optimize the use of natural resources, cut or eliminate pollution and toxic waste and add economic value by significantly lowering cost and improving profitability.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • deal sourcing, screening, investments and disinvestments
  • in depth analysis of cleantech relevant companies and industries
  • due diligence, modeling and valuation of potential investments
  • involvement in the post investment monitoring such as guiding portfolio companies in financial reporting
  • All investment team members report to the Head of the Capricorn Cleantech Investment Practice; candidates joining at the Investment Manager level are expected to take a leading role in deal transactions

Candidates should have the following skills and experience:

  • university degree at Master Level in applied economics, engineering, science or similar; additional MBA studies are a plus;
  • minimum five, preferably up to ten years of relevant work experience, especially for investment managers
  • A working knowledge of high growth companies and prior exposure to venture capital industry, preferably in the Cleantech area
  • excellent numeric and financial modeling skills with demonstrable experience
  • technology savvy with demonstrable interest in clean technology
  • ability to manage a number of work-streams concurrently and semi-independently in a dynamic high paced work environment
  • ability to function in a specialised international oriented but small company where flexibility and diverse all round work is required by all co-workers
  • proficiency in English required, practical knowledge of other European languages such as French, Spanish, German, Dutch or any Scandinavian language is a major plus
  • EU nationality or EU work permit required.

Remuneration is top quartile for the right candidates. All positions are Leuven, Belgium, based.
