American States Water gets Fort Bragg contract

October 1, 2007 - by David Ehrlich, Cleantech Group

San Dimas, Calif.-based American States Water (NYSE: AWR) announced today that it signed a contract to provide water and wastewater services at Fort Bragg, N.C.

The company said the 50 year, $575 million agreement will be handled by its Old North Utility Services subsidiary.

"The signing of this agreement establishes ASUS as the premier provider of water and wastewater services to the United States military and marks another important continuing milestone in American States Water Company's growth strategy," said Floyd Wicks, president and CEO of American States Water.

Under the contract, Old North will provide all necessary labor, management, supervision, permits, equipment, supplies, materials, transportation and any other incidentals for the complete operation, maintenance, repair, upgrades and improvements to the water and wastewater utility systems at Fort Bragg.

American States Water said the contract is subject to periodic price re-determination adjustments and modifications for changes in circumstances.

"ASUS currently operates at seven other military bases across the country, and has a number of additional bids outstanding for similar contracts. We look forward to providing other United States military bases with premier water and wastewater services," said Wicks.

Last week, American States Water announced a deal to operate and maintain the water and wastewater systems at Fort Jackson, S.C.

That contract, valued at $143 million, is also for a 50 year period.
