Goes on Green plans U.K. biodiesel plant

December 11, 2007 - by David Ehrlich, Cleantech Group

Harrogate, England-based alternative energy company Goes on Green said today it applied for planning permission to site the first phase of its $61.4 million biodiesel facility in North Shields, Tyne & Wear.

The company plans to produce 30,000 tonnes of biodiesel per year within 12 months of plant commissioning, and 180,000 tonnes when the facility reaches full production within 36 months.

Goes on Green is backed by Al Tayyar Energy, a clean energy development and investment company headquartered in Abu Dhabi.

Al Tayyar is the majority investor in Goes on Green and provided initial financing.

"By selecting a novel means of processing a wide range of feed stocks of fats and oils, we are opening up a new platform to expand biodiesel production in the U.K. and ultimately internationally," said Ing Simeone, chairman and co-founder of Goes on Green.

The new facility is expected to be built on a four acre site at the Simon Storage terminal, an existing chemical-petrochemical storage facility.

Goes on Green said the plant will use a multiple range of feedstocks, including fats, greases and non-edible animal fats.

"The U.K. has committed to achieving significant levels of biofuel production and is providing important incentives to support investment in this market, both of which have been important factors in ATE's decision to make its first global biodiesel investment in this country," said Granville Smith, CEO of Al Tayyar Energy.
