Logica launches Indian research center

September 15, 2008 - by Lee Bruno, Cleantech Group

London-based consultancy Logica said today it has established a new innovation center in Bangalore, India, to focus on wireless mobile technologies for transportation, monitoring of vehicle emissions and other applications.

The innovation center is expected to help Logica showcase the company’s technologies and solutions, as well as provide a working environment to spawn new innovations for the Indian market.

The center is designed so partners and customers can collaborate with Logica to design and build new products for the market. It is also expected to leverage the talent from universities from around the globe to solve these transportation and cleantech challenges (see Europe may need more cuts in transport emissions).

Traffic congestion is a chronic problem in Indian cities, where residents account for about 5 percent of the nation's population but 14 percent of its total registered vehicles, according to the World Bank. The financial institution said motor vehicle ownership and use in developing countries is growing even faster than populations.

Logica launched an innovation center in Lisbon, Portugal, in May of this year. That center is focused on the areas in electricity, water and gas industries. Among the types of solutions being developed include advanced metering infrastructure, wind farms management systems and intelligent grids.

Logica plans to open its third center in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, focused on technology later this year.

Last week, the European Union moved forward with plans for its own cleantech business center in India (see EU plans Indian center to spur cleantech trade).
