Heard of GM's Hummer 02 concept?
GM designers used a far-future Hummer design to win a competition at the L.A. Auto Show to design an environmentally sustainable vehicle of the future.
What you're looking at will likely never be built - it's a 2D design only. Not even a small scale mockup has been made.
Design studios were challenged to "transform the future of driving into an environmental experience". Contest guidelines also required that vehicle entries be 100-percent recyclable and have a maximum lifespan of just 60 months. Manufacturers don't plan to actually make any of the designs; the competition was just "for bragging rights amongst design studios around town," said Kim Hale, a spokesperson for the L.A. Auto Show, contacted by Red Herring.
GM's Hummer 02 calls for algae-filled body panels to transform harmful CO2 into pure oxygen that's subsequently released back into the environment.
