Oerlikon, DKSH team up in China, Taiwan

June 16, 2009 - by Lisa Sibley, Cleantech Group

Switzerland’s DKSH Holding and Balzers, Liechtenstein based Oerlikon Systems, a business unit of OC Oerlikon, signed an agreement today for DKSH to take over Oerlikon’s after-sales activities in mainland China and Taiwan.

The partnership with Oerlikon Systems emphasizes DKSH's strategy of expanding its coverage beyond semiconductors into advanced nanotechnology and photovoltaics.

OC Oerlikon is an international high-tech industrial group focused on machine and plant engineering. The company specializes in industrial solutions and technologies for textile manufacturing; thin-film solar and thin-film coating; and drive, precision and vacuum systems.

OC Oerlikon's PV applications are better known through another one of its business units, Oerlikon Solar (VTX:OERL.VX), which sells manufacturing lines for the production of thin film silicon solar modules (see Oerlikon aims to streamline thin-film solar, Order delays lead to layoffs at Oerlikon Solar and Oerlikon introduces new thin film solar equipment).

DKSH is a market expansion services company focused on Asia that helps companies grow businesses and brands in new or existing markets.

The partnership is expected to allow DKSH to act quickly on local opportunities, installation services and customer service, while building a reputation in the East Asia markets. Through the collaboration, DKSH said it wants to be able to satisfy its customers with Oerlikon System's coating equipment and with DKSH's local sales and customer support network. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.
