China Wind gets ISO approval for new facility

July 15, 2009 - by Lisa Sibley, Cleantech Group

Wuxi, China-based China Wind Systems (OTC:CWSI) said today it has received certification from the International Organization for Standardization for its new production facility in Wuxi City.

China Wind supplies forged rolled rings, wind tower flanges and gear rims—all components of gearboxes—to wind power and other industries in China. The certification, approved through 2012, says the company’s quality management system is in compliance with ISO standards and covers machining and related service of shaft-shaped forging, ring forging, tubular forging and component assembly.

ISO is a network of national standards institutes in 161 countries that develops and publishes international standards for a variety of sectors. China Wind said it expects additional certifications from other agencies to follow.

“As we receive these certifications, we anticipate gaining new customers and larger orders from existing customers," said China Wind’s CEO Jianhua Wu, in a news release.

In February 2009, China Wind started production of wind turbine components at its new manufacturing factory (see China Wind starts production at new factory).

China Wind said it plans for its new, 108,000-square-foot production facility to initially operate at half its capacity but reach 100 percent by 2010, at which point it would produce 40,000 tons of rolled rings up to 6.3 meters in diameter, as well as flanges, shafts and gear rims (see China Wind ramps to meet gearbox shortfall).

In June, China Wind received RMB 1 million ($146,000) in a grant from the Economic and Trade Bureau of Huishan District, Wuxi City. China Wind said it plans to use the money to increase production of forged products for the wind power and other industries in China (see Pound-for-pound, cleantech deals have a British twist).
