The cleantech industry has a new anthem… if we want it.
A group calling itself DCFreeBand posted a video on YouTube in mid-July that's been racking up hits in recent days. The track, "Clean Energy Song," sings the praises of wind, solar and natural gas powered-vehicles—proclaiming in the opening credits that it was written "In Support Of The T. Boone Picken's [sic] Plan."
DCFreeBand makes an economic case for clean energy "creating new jobs of various kinds." If a logical appeal like that isn't going to sway the climate-change skeptics, I don't know what will.
The band also takes the electric grid to task around 2:42: "Transmission of power from an antiquated grid, among the late century of our grandfather's bid." Burn!
It wasn't all fun and games, however. The lyrics crossed the fear-mongering line at one point as the singer warned of the only way to prevent the world's demise: "Wind, solar, natural gas power and we will leave the world with more than an hour." I'd like to know what hydropower, geothermal and biofuels have to say about that.
DCFreeBand has garnered a five-star rating (admittedly based on one review) and is seen in the video repeatedly whipping its entourage into a jumping, first-pumping frenzy during the chorus.
Songs have long been used as driving force behind social change. After watching this music video on a loop while writing this blog, I know I'll never forget the need for "Clean energy for every man." Ever.
