Chinese firm's newly patented tech offers energy savings

October 20, 2009 - by Lisa Sibley, Cleantech Group

Shenyang, China-based NF Energy Saving (OTCBB:NFEC) said today it has obtained two new patents for its technology that offers energy efficiencies for hydropower plants.

The company specializes in producing industrial valve components and energy efficient flow control systems.

In August, NF Energy changed its ticker symbol from “NFES” to “NFEC,” and completed a one-for-three reverse stock split to better position itself to upgrade to a more senior exchange, such as the American Stock Exchange or Nasdaq Stock Market.

The two patents include one related to the invention of “a butterfly valve body dynamic seal ring pointing device,” and the other for the valve’s application with a butterfly plate adjusting device.

A dynamic seal ring pointed device is used in the inlet valve of hydropower plants. The engineering firm said the new device provides warning signals that can be sent out quickly with clear instructions. It also helps to save hydropower due to easier operation in maintenance, adjustment, and replacement of equipment.

NF Energy claims the device offers long-term stability of the seal ring because it uses fewer components, and reduces resistance because of its optimized structure.

A butterfly plate adjusting device is used in large dimension vertical butterfly valves. It helps to reduce friction and wear on the bottom valve shaft, according to NF Energy. It also prevents internal leakage, and consequently achieves energy savings and extends the valve's useful life.

The energy services firm also provides energy saving technology and consulting services related to energy optimization design, re-engineering of pipeline systems resulting in energy savings, and energy management services.

In June, NF Energy signed a $2 million contract to provide the Chinese province of Liaoning with energy-efficient electrical lighting, marking the only commercial distributor of energy efficient lamps and bulbs in the province. The Liaoning province has targeted the replacement of 2.5 million bulb installations by the end of 2009 (see NF Energy scores $2 million lighting contract in China).
