Canadian Solar (NASDAQ: CSIQ) has won a contract to supply a building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solar glass roof system to China's Luoyang Polysilicon Company.
The three-story building, located in Luoyang of Henan Province, will house the Research Department of Luoyang Polysilicon and the China National Silicon Materials Engineering Research Center.
Canadian Solar is a customer of Luoyang Polysilicon.
The solar glass roof will cover a total of 293.3 square meters of roof space. The project is expected to be completed this summer.
The system will be one of only a few functional commercial solar glass roof systems in China. The project is to be financially sponsored by the Technology Development Fund of Luoyang Municipality Government.
"The BIPV project for our new R&D Center demonstrates our dedication to renewable energy and efficient building technologies. It also demonstrates a breakthrough in ENFI Group's capability to integrate solar technology into architecture design," said Guohong He, Deputy General Manager of China Luoyang Polysilicon.
Luoyang Polysilicon currently has a nameplate capacity of 1000 MT and will increase its polysilicon production capacity to 3000 MT by the end of 2008.
Founded in 2001, Canadian Solar is a manufacturer of solar module and customer-designed solar application products serving worldwide customers. CSI is incorporated in Canada and conducts all of its manufacturing operations in China.
