New hybrid engine for aircraft to use compressed air

The Scuderi Group has secured patents for the world’s first air-hybrid internal combustion aircraft engine, which promises to increase the fuel efficiency of today’s propeller-equipped airplanes and reduce toxic emissions by up to 80 percent - with a design that the company claims will make air-hybrid prop airplanes lighter and less expensive to build.

Scuderi developed a split-cycle technology to recapture and store energy in the form of compressed air.

Unlike conventional airplane prop engines, the Scuderi engine produces compressed air during its normal operation.
