Agriculture & Food
Planted, developer of plant-based meat products, raised $69.7 million in Series B funding from L Catterton, Vorwerk Ventures, Movendo Capital and Yann Sommer. The company currently has a production capacity of 1 tonne/hour of whole-cut meats, based out of a site in Switzerland. Funding to go towards building another production facility and expanding both its product range and reach globally.
Energy & Power
Lunar Energy, provider of renewable energy for residential homes using solar and home battery systems, raised $300 million in equity funding from SK Group, Sunrun, ITOCHU and Honda Motor Co. The company is currently developing an all-electric home battery system to control varying energy loads, to be launched in late 2022. The system is designed to work with solar energy to enable a fully renewable energy-powered home.
Materials & Chemicals
H2 Green Steel, developer of large-scale, integrated, digitalized and automated steel plants with lower carbon impact, raised $190 million in Series B funding round co-led by AMF Pension, GIC Special Investments and Schaeffler. Other participating investors include Altor Equity Partners, Swedbank, Vargas, Kingspan, FAM, Marcegaglia, IMAS Foundation, Christina Stenbeck and Daniel Ek. The company uses green hydrogen to power steel production, and is building an integrated giga-scale electrolyser in Sweden. It aims to produce 5 Mt of green steel by 2030.
Resources & Environment
Carbon Direct, provider of CCUS data management platform to enable corporates to fulfill their carbon removal and utilization commitments, raised $60 million in Series A funding from Decarbonization Partners, Temasek Holdings, BlackRock and Quantum Energy Partners. The company’s software allows direct purchasing, tracking and reporting on client’s carbon portfolio, as well as traceable verification of projects. Solution is offered for both subscriptions and one-time transactions. Funds will go towards expanding its platform and offerings.
Transportation & Logistics
Deepway, developer of smart electric trucks, raised $67.1 million in Series A funding from Qiming Venture Partners, Lenovo Capital, Vlight Capital, CCB Investment, TH EDU Capital, Empowtech Capital, BOCOM International and Huagai Capital. The vehicles use an electric distributed drive system, resulting in increased efficiency. Funds to go towards further development of autonomous driving solutions and manufacturing of smart electric vehicles
